Magic Eyes from Google?

I know it’s a little early, but with technology wizards constantly catching me off guard, I thought I’d get a jump on this one.

Google will soon be selling a “smart” contact lens. It could have a camera, a glucose monitor, a zoom feature, facial recognition, and only Google knows what else. This means that before your five year old gets to high school, you might be cursing yourself for not learning how to block your kid from Amazon’s one-click buying and online porn. Because your kid will be able to do, well, let’s call it magic. Without a wand. How does it work? You blink your eyes in some sort of code. Fun!

But there’s a dark side to this, which any parent could immediate see. With his new magic eyes, he’ll be able to zoom in on the A student’s answers to the test he’s taking, even though the class pet is sitting in the front row. His magic eyes will be able to zoom from inside your house into the neighbor’s house window and get a close-up picture of them — well, you can imagine.

It’s Google’s smart contact lens. The Internet and tech giant has been filing for patents for its smart contact lens, which will be the same size as a regular contact lens. The patents indicate that Google is developing a contact with Internet access, a camera and a glucose monitor.

The smart lens will be able to help the semi-blind to see better (think Grandma) using facial recognition software. And that possible zoom feature? Just call me eagle eyes. We’ll be able to watch Miley Cyrus’ twerking from all the way in the cheap seats.

The tech experts are speculating the smart lens might be available in the next few years. You know what that means. Get ready now.

And for us kids, start asking for one of these new contact lens now. They might be expensive. Save your allowance. You might even have to mow a lawn or two.
